When Street Art and Subculture Hijack the Fashion World
Obey Clothing did not start in the boardroom of market research focus groups, it started as a subversive art experiment straight on the street. What street artist Shepard Fairey kicked off at art school back in 1989 with a simple wave of stickers featuring wrestling legend André the Giant grew into one of the most influential streetwear brands on the planet by 2001. Instead of chasing fleeting micro trends, Obey uses apparel as a direct canvas for political voice, pop culture commentary, and uncompromising street art roots. From the iconic Giant Icon logo to graphic statement tees, heavy overshirts, and rugged jackets, Obey channels the unpolished energy of punk rock, skateboarding, and DIY culture. The brand proves to this day that clothing can carry a real message rather than just drowning in corporate uniformity.
